TSSAA announced on November 3 that Clarksville Academy senior, DJ Merriweather, is a DII Class A, Mr. Football semi-finalist.
DJ has had an impressive year, both on and off the field. His performance on the baseball field, especially the pitching mound, garnered considerable attention statewide. In May, DJ was named a Mr. Baseball semi-finalist. In October, DJ was named Mr. CA. This honor is bestowed upon one senior boy, who has attended Clarksville Academy for all of high school, is a friend to all, shows moral and ethical integrity, and is overall a standout student.
DJ has led his football team to a solid 7-3 finish this fall in regular season play. His talent as the quarterback is something to watch. This past Friday, during our final regular season game, DJ and two of his teammates broke long-standing CA records. DJ now holds the school record for most passing yards in a single season. That number is 2,040, and he isn’t done yet. His touchdown to interception ratio is at a standout point of 27:2. The Cougars move into the first round of playoff action on Friday, November 4, at 7:00 PM on Simpson Field.
TSSAA will announce the finalists for DII, Class A, Mr. Football Finalists on Tuesday, November 22. Mr. Football will be named on December 7.
