On Friday, the Cougars and the Lady Cougars competed in the regional golf tournament at The Legacy in Springfield. The Lady Cougars began the tournament with a mission, return to the state tournament, and they did just that. Led by Hunter Farrell firing her best round of the season, a 76, the Lady Cougars defeated the competition to accomplish their goal. Mallory Saleh shot an 82 and Michaela Dowdy a 90 to complete the team score of 158. On the boys side, the Cougars put together their absolute best round of the season by shooting a 315 as a team. However, Houston County bested the Cougars with a team score of 312. The highlights of the day had to include Taylor Norris making a vow to break 82 and boy did he. Taylor finished the day shooting an all time best 80 helping with the final score of the Cougars. The other scores on the team were Samuel Nicholson 80, Bryson Batson 82 and Dawson Bagwell 89. Wyatt Samuels came into the tournament with one goal, make the state tournament. Wyatt shot a 1 over par 73, and then had to wait and see if the score would qualify him. After all the scores were in, Wyatt found himself in a familiar position, tied for the last qualifying spot for the to make the state field. Wyatt matched up against Lipscomb Academy’s Paul Swindell for the last spot. On the first hole Paul parred the hole and then Wyatt calmly sank a 3 foot birdie putt for the win.
Wyatt, Mallory, Hunter and Michaela will be competing at the state tournament October 3-5.
